BALTIMORE (Map, News) - These days, Corks has reason to pop a few bottles and toast itself.

The restaurant, on South Charles Street in Federal Hill, is celebrating its 10th anniversary, commemorated in a special birthday menu with dishes priced as they were at the restaurant’s opening in 1997.

Corks is a long, narrow establishment, its open kitchen situated behind a pair of storefront windows. Past the chefs’ and the galley kitchen’s steam, an intimate dining area awaits visitors, its venetian-plastered walls and strategically placed mirrors adding an open feel.

Chef/owner Jerry Pellegrino possesses two passions — fine food and finer wine. Sommelier Chris Coker is on hand for recommendations before, during and after dining.

The braised monkfish was delicate in flavor and accompanied by a tomato cilantro broth that did not intrude on the succulance of this white fish. The pan-roasted chicken breast delivered a juicy goodness in its grape and balsamic reduction.

And the signature creme brulee was precisely silky smooth.
