An unknown man grabbed a 23-year-old Arlington woman from behind Tuesday night near the Crystal City Metro Station, according to Arlington police.

The woman freed herself from his grasp and suffered only minor injuries to her arms, according to a police department news release. The incident occurred shortly before 9 p.m. on the 600 block of South 18th Street as the victim walked home from the library, Detective Steve Gomez said.

In mid-April, a man grabbed a 35-year-old Arlington woman from behind near the Rosslyn Metro Station, according to Arlington police. In that incident, the victim, on her way home from work, walked from the station to her car, parked on North Nash Street, at about 11:30 p.m. The man came up behind her, slipped a plastic bag across her face and tried to pull her backward. She fought him off.

Gomez said detectives have not linked Tuesday’s incident to any other crimes, but they are looking into it. The incident is unusual given the area and early hour, Gomez said.

“It’s hard to tell the intent of the guy,” Gomez said.

The man, who ran away after the woman fought him off, is described as a black male in his early 20s with short dreadlocks, according to police. He is about 5-foot-7 and weighs about 150 pounds.

Police are looking for other witnesses who may have seen the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Mike Rowling at 703-228-4166.
