The McLean Citizens Association has chastised officials over what it called a “growing atmosphere of secrecy” on the planned Metrorail extension to Dulles.

The influential citizens group passed a resolution Wednesday night attacking the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, which is slated to take over the more than $4 billion extension of Metro, for its claim of exemption from information disclosure laws. The issue was first reported in The Examiner.

It also criticized the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors for a series of recent closed meetings that “some board members and outside experts seriously question the legality of,” according to the organization. The board’s closed-door discussions have come under fire as a violation of Virginia’s Freedom of Information Act.

The group called for greater information disclosure on the entire rail extension and urged the General Assembly to amend the transportation law “deemed to support excessive secrecy for this and similar projects.” They also asked federal or state legislatures to put the airports authority under open government regulations.
