A 38-year-old Ellicott City man died Tuesday when his 1995 Ford Probe ran off the right side of the Baltimore Beltway, struck a lamp post, veered back onto the highway and ran under a tractor-trailer, state police said.

The man’s name was not available pending notification of next of kin, police said.

The 2 a.m. accident closed the outer loop between Frederick Road and Wilkens Avenue for about four hours, police said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The tractor-trailer driver did not suffer any serious injuries, said police, who believe fatigue may have contributed.
