Millions of dollars for military base expansions in Maryland were sent to the president for approval Thursday, including $389 million for planning and construction at Aberdeen Proving Ground.

Sen. Barbara Mikulski’s office announced this week that Congress had set aside $446.3 million in an emergency supplemental spending bill that will pay for base expansions around the state. Planners said Wednesday that a total of $750 million in improvements need to happen at Aberdeen Proving Ground before Sept. 15, 2011.

Nearly 51 percent of the money for APG will actually be spent on relocating the Army’s Ordnance School from Edgewood to Fort Lee, Va., but that move has to be completed before some of the new agencies can move in.
