Alioto-Pier requested on Tuesday that the City Attorney’s Office draft legislation requiring the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission to implement a program “requiring our public schools to become 100 percent carbon neutral by the year 2009 by the use of solar panels on each school.”

Alioto-Pier said that this local effort would help “combat carbon emissions that are contributing to overall global warming and its devastating effects.”

Board votes 10-1 to redeploy police officers from SFO

In a 10-1 vote, the Board of Supervisors gave approval Tuesday to legislation requiring police Chief Heather Fong to work with the Controller’s Office to determine by July 1 the number of officers necessary to meet the security and policing needs at the San Francisco International Airport as well as develop a plan to redeploy any airport officers to serve crime plagued neighborhoods when the department operates below its minimum staffing level of 1,971.

Drafted by Supervisors Ross Mirkarimi, the legislation was intended to put more officers out on the streets as The City struggles to bring down the high homicide and violent crime rate.

Civilian oversight body to meet in Ingleside

The civilian body that sets policy for the San Francisco Police Department will meet in the Ingleside District tonight. The San Francisco Police Commission regularly meets in The City's neighborhoods to hear local issues from station captains and residents. Tonight's meeting will take place at Visitacion Valley Middle School at 450 Raymond Ave. at 6 p.m.
