Lietz will share her experiences with melanoma during a 45-minute assembly for students Friday morning.
The American Cancer Society estimates that melanoma will kill more than 8,000 people in the U.S. this year.
Lietz was diagnosed with the disease two years ago. She attributes developing the disease to her sunbathing without sunscreen and frequent exposure to tanning beds.
Crowned Miss Maryland last year and now a student at the Maryland School of Nursing, Lietz has spent her reign spreading the word about the dangers of melanoma, especially to young people.
