Peninsula Police Blotter: Crime log

SAN MATEO, Calif. (Map, News) - Following are excerpts from Peninsula cities' police daily logs of crime activities, as selected and edited by The Examiner.

Daly City

Cell-phone con: Metro PCS, 6883 Mission St., reported to police on April 2 that an unknown scam artist used stolen ID information from a Charles Schwab account throughout March to fraudulently purchase 40 prepaid cell phones valued at $12,000.

Burglarized: A lucky burglar got through the kitchen window of an apartment on the 1-100 block of Crestwood Drive between 10 and 11 p.m. April 1 and quickly stole $6,000 worth of jewelry and cameras.

Tattoo thievery: A body adornment fan was caught with the portfolio photo book he stole from a tattoo artist’s booth in a Cow Palace show April 1 at 7:45 p.m. Police let him go when the victim declined to press charges.

Crack rider: When a taxi passenger refused to pay his $70 fare at 8:36 p.m. March 31, the cabbie calmly dropped him off at the Daly City BART station and then cell-phoned the police. The driver declined to press charges, but the passenger was arrested and booked into County Jail anyway because he was wanted on several warrants and had allegedly left a glass crack pipe in the taxi back seat.

Strong-arm acquaintance: A female resident of the 1-100 block of Poncetta Drive let a male acquaintance bring a friend into her apartment at 11:05 a.m. March 30. The pair held a gun to her head, taped her mouth shut and robbed her of a wallet, jewelry, cell phone and her house keys.

Burlingame

Brick through MBZ glass: An unknown vandal threw a brick through the windshield of a silver Mercedes Benz sometime overnight April 3 on the 700 block of Concord Way.

Rear-view robber: An unknown mirror thief stole the rear-view mirror from a Ford Explorer parked on the 2900 block of Trousdale Drive at 2 p.m. April 4. The same thing had previously happened to the victim’s other car, a Lincoln.

San Carlos

Caught with loot: When the automatic alarm sounded from Tooland, 1369 Industrial Road, at 4:11 a.m. April 2, police arrived in time to nab a 30-year-old Pacifica man whose vehicle allegedly held property stolen from the business. The suspect was arrested for burglary and possession of burglary tools and was booked into County Jail.

Cell theft: Police arrested a 22-year-old man on charges of grand theft from Parrott Cellular, 1101 San Carlos Ave. at 4:04 p.m. April 1 and booked him into County Jail.

South San Francisco

Burrito beating: A suspected gang member threatened to come back and beat up an employee of the El Zocalo restaurant on El Camino Real and Hickey Boulevard at 8:24 p.m. April 2 because his takeout order was taking too long.

Phony prescription: A woman was arrested at the Walgreens drug store on Westborough Boulevard at 10:54 a.m. April 1 while waiting for a fraudulent controlled substance prescription that supposedly was called in from a doctor’s office.

Lawn assault: A man came to the door of a Portola Avenue residence shortly before 9 a.m. March 27 and asked if the homeowner wanted her lawn mowed. He was allowed into the back yard where he insisted that the homeowner get monthly service. She refused and in the ensuing argument the lawn man twisted her arm before escaping in a small Toyota truck with two other males.

Redwood City

Unfriendly act: A homeowner on Friendly Court allowed a building inspector onto his property at 12:53 p.m. April 3. But when the inspector started taking photos, the homeowner became upset and pushed him.

Webcam witness: A Minnesota man was talking long distance to his lady friend via online phone with webcam at 10:51 p.m. April 1. He called police when he witnessed the woman’s ex-husband come into the house and begin punching her. Officers arrived just after the intruder left.

Tree hits car: A tree fell over onto an unoccupied car parked on the 500 block of Jackson Avenue at 1:45 p.m. April 1.

San Bruno

Grab and run: Two shoplifters stole $800 worth of merchandise from a store on the 1100 block of El Camino Real at 6:08 p.m. April 3.

Fence fouled: Graffiti was discovered on a wooden fence in the 500 block of San Mateo Avenue at 4:49 a.m. April 2.

Driving too slow: Police were called at 6:26 p.m. April 2 with a complaint that a motorist was driving too slow on the 1500 block of Monterey Drive.

San Mateo

Costumed crazies: A resident of the 300 block of N. Claremont Street phoned police to report that at least 50 people in costumes were vandalizing his car and apartment building at 4:47 a.m. April 3.

Thrown off train: Two men were ejected from Caltrain at the Hayward Park station on Concar Drive when they attempted to smuggle a dog aboard at 10:08 a.m. April 1. One suspect almost got hit by a train while trying to run away across the tracks.
