BALTIMORE (Map, News) - The Baltimore City Council nominating committee, as expected, picked Democrat Vernon Crider to fill the 13th district council seat vacated by Paula Johnson Branch.

Crider, a former legislative aide to Branch, was selected from a field of five candidates who interviewed for the position.

Branch retired her seat in March after serving on the council since 1992.

The full council will vote on Crider’s nomination at its next meeting on April 16.
