The Howard County Health Department is joining agencies across the country to highlight National Public Health Week 2007.Related Topics: Howard County
The theme this year is “Take the First Step! Preparedness and Public Health Threats: Addressing the Unique Needs of the Nation’s Vulnerable Populations.”
Howard Health Officer Peter Beilenson encourages residents to have an emergency plan in place and to stock up on supplies before an emergency occurs. Howard’s Health Department, senior centers, libraries, churches and community groups are working together to provide information and support to help the most vulnerable. Information boards and literature will be available at libraries, senior centers and government buildings.

Does Fairfax County have a hidden agenda for the Huntington area of Alexandria! A meeting was held tonight with members of Fairfax County and the Army Core of Engineers. When asked why the department of Planning and Zoning changed the regulations for building within a flood plain in the Huntington area after the January 2007 Army Core of Engineers report, a report that only validated a 2002 VDOT study … the response was to prevent future lose and costly repairs to the home owners. If this is true, then why is Fairfax County still issuing permits for basement renovations? They know the area will flood again and that the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) only covers a hot water heater, HVAC, and with content insurance a washer and dyer in a basement? Is Fairfax County really trying to solve the problem or just wanting homeowners to leave? Thank you, Frank Sarley
