Anne Arundel police consider their a monthlong sting operation a success, after they arrested more than 10 people, seized thousands of dollars in drugs and confiscated two guns.

“It not only prevented crime, but it also got the word out that we will be doing these undercover operations more often,” said Cpl. Sara Schriver, police spokeswoman. “We definitely want to get this implemented in other districts.”

The detectives based out of the agency’s Western District conducted Operation SPAR — short for Surveillance, Prevention, Arrest and Reduction — from Feb. 14 to March 14, according to a police report.

After county police received several complaints regarding drug activity in that area, Operation SPAR was created with the goal of not only eliminating criminal activity, but preventing future acts of crime, Schriver said. No additional funding was needed to conduct the sting, she said.
