A customer leaving the restroom of a fast-food restaurant interrupted a pair of fleeing robbers and was shot multiple times in the face, Anne Arundel police said.

The victim, whose name was not released, was taken to Shock Trauma in Baltimore. Police said his injuries did not appear life-threatening.

A pair of masked robbers reportedly entered the Wendy’s in the 7900 block of Ritchie Highway at about 11:15 a.m. One had a handgun, and the other carried a shotgun, police said. They announced a robbery, took an undetermined amount of money and tried to leave, police said.

But police said, a physical altercation ensued between the robbers and the customer. The robbers eventually escaped in a minivan found later in a neighborhood behind the restaurant, police said. It had been reported stolen from Prince George’s County. Witnesses told police that the men exited the minivan and entered another minivan.

Police asked anyone who might have information about the robbers to call them at 410-222-8610.
