TIMONIUM, Md. (Map, News) - The employees at Arista Advertising may be celebrating the company’s 20th anniversary this year, but their work remains ageless.

“The name ‘Arista’ is based on a derivative of the Greek word meaning ‘high quality,’” said Arista’s founder and president, Fanny Chakedis. “We are inspired by classical Greek design, which is timeless. We create designs that do not get dated.”

Chakedis, who founded the Timonium-based advertising agency in 1987, says she is partly inspired by Greek philosopher Aristotle when it comes to design. “Aristotle promotes the marriage of the mind and aesthetics,” she said, a philosophy she believes is represented in her work. “We don’t just create a nice-looking design, we create designs that are thoughtful and what the client needs to communicate.”

The biggest change Chakedis has noticed in clients over the years has to do with experience and savvy. “Clients have learned that when they try to cut corners and costs, they end up paying for it in the long run,” she said. “A lot of them are looking for someone they can trust to handle their products and material to make them look good.”

Ken Sufka, of Sufka & Associates, has collaborated with Arista on several projects for associations like the National Air Duct Cleaners Association, over the past 20 years. “Arista is very responsive to my needs, and to my staff’s needs; they treat us as though we are special,” he said. “We keep going back because we can’t find a service that is comparable to theirs. They are very good at what they do.”
