The San Francisco businessman and his lawyer, Joe Alioto, filed their response Friday to Hearst Corp. and MediaNews Group Inc.’s March 16 motion to toss out a bitter newspaper lawsuit. Hearst argued plaintiff Reilly has no legal standing because he’s not a frequent newspaper advertiser and doesn’t subscribe to the MediaNews papers. “To get standing, there’s no quantity that you have to buy,” Alioto replied, but their rebuttal is sealed because it references confidential earlier filings.

Google Inc.

A federal judge dismissed a lawsuit alleging that Google Inc. (GOOG) abused its position as the Internet’s leading search engine by wrongfully banishing dozens of Web sites from its index. In a March 16 ruling, U.S. District Judge Jeremy Fogel concluded there were insufficient grounds for the case brought by Kinderstart.com, a Norwalk-based Web site devoted to information about children, to proceed. Fogel also ordered Kinderstart and its lawyer to pay a portion of Google’s legal costs.
