A member of a violent San Francisco street gang operating in the Sunnydale housing project was sentenced Tuesday to 17 and half years in prison on a racketeering charge.

Twenty-year old Robert Calloway is the fourth member of the Down Below Gang to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge William Alsup in San Francisco. A total of 12 gang members were indicted in 2005 and faced charges of racketeering, drug dealing, murder and attempted murder. Prosecutors say that the gang sold cocaine and used violence to gain control over the area.

Veteran S.F. civil servant dies of natural causes

Longtime civil servant and 911 dispatcher Toni Hardley died on March 8 of natural causes after having served The City for 43 years of life. Hardley began her civil service career in 1963, first with the school district, then working for the San Francisco Police Department’s Juvenile Bureau. In 1978, she transferred to police communications as a line dispatcher. Daly calls hearing to look into ethics recommendations

Supervisor Chris Daly has requested a hearing Thursday to determine if The City’s Ethics Commission is being adequately funded and has implemented the recommendations of a 2005 grand jury Report.

San Francisco voters established the Ethics Commission in November 1993 to watch over city politicians and city employees to ensure ethic laws are followed.

The Board of Supervisors Rules Committee meets Thursday at 10 a.m., at City Hall, Room 263.
