GLEN BURNIE, Md. (Map, News) - Glenn Jackson was a young man who wanted to make some good cash when he saw an ad in the newspaper for an auto dealership, offering an exciting future and promised financial prosperity for solid employees. Glenn Jackson answered that ad in 1977.
Today he’s the general manager of both of its stores, Tate Dodge and Tate Chrysler-Jeep.
“It was really off the cuff,” said Jackson of his response to the ad. “It was not something I planned. I just saw it and took the plunge.”
Jackson’s solid professional background in finance and insurance helped him move quickly up the company ladder.
In fact, he could have moved faster, but he enjoyed the finance end of the business and was reluctant to leave for a sales manager position until it was offered multiple times.
“I was just really comfortable with what I was doing,” said Jackson. “Taking that next step, there was a degree of uncertainty and mystery. But I decided to take the challenge.”
Today when Jackson talks to job candidates, he always tells them that despite the naysayers in the business, a career in auto dealerships can be very lucrative.
“If you have the ability to sell, there are a lot of benefits,” he said. “You have unlimited ability to move in the organization. I’m a prime example of that.”
Serious financial incentives and the challenge of an ever-changing agenda for each day are some of the other benefits, he said.
Of course, it’s also important to join an organization that values their employees.
Jackson said Tate proves they are a solid organization by their low employee turnover and high repeat customer business.
“We are very consumer-oriented, and we’re always striving to meet consumer needs,” he said. “This dealership has been in business 50 years in this market. We have a solid reputation and we are going to keep it.”
Ron Ward, general sales manager of Tate Dodge New Cars and Trucks, said that tone is set throughout both dealerships.
“What makes us different is honesty,” said Ward. “That sounds funny in the car business, but it’s true of what we do here.”

" Hence.... every Auto Showcase ad is far from honest in the advertised "Asking Price". This represents the value to be financed!. Add $3,000 for the down payment for the actual total price!! Rude personnel!! Total waste of time!!!!!!

If there are only 3 Subaru 360s still in existence in the US, how about the 100 owned by the 400+ member families in the SUBARU 360 DRIVERS' CLUB, now in our 29th year and still growing? www.subaru360club.org PS - I have driven Subaru 360s more than 300,000 miles since 2/75 and have never (yet) been stuck on the road with one. I get 40 - 50 mpg, and can cruise at 60-65 mph al day.

Just a few notes, there are alot more surviving 360s than 3, they are in the hundreds. Also the sedan only had two doors not four. They CAN acheive 60mph (no head wind preferred) Also with the ethenol based fuel they acheive about 40mpg. Wow, great math skills. go back to school. 55 miles per hour equals around 88 kilometers per hour...the kilometer is a smaller measurement than a mile. 100 kilometers per gallon would translate to about sixty...about what the diesel is supposed to get.

That was a very entertaining article, though I don't think it was intended to be so funny. I doubt if the reporter is a motorcyclist, based on the comical safety tips she offers. As an example, there is no mention of rider training or driving sober, which are the two most significant ways riders can reduce their risk. But considering her reliance on AAA as a source (they lead the anti-motorcyclist lobby), I'm not surprised she recommends 'extremely' tight helmets and motorcycle airbags. Instead of fantasizing about safer crashes, bikers should hone their skills at dodging inattentive drivers. That's how to stay alive and in one piece.

I own a 1990 Cadillac Coupe DeVille and agree with you 100%. I like the '88-93 Devilles the best, and I also believe they are among the best mechanically. The 4.5 V8 in my 90 is still going strong with 100k+ miles and never a problem. I did have an 84 Deville prior with the 4.1 that needed engine replacement very early on.
