Illegal right turns onto U.S. Highway 101 are just one of many problems with the newly laid-out Octavia Boulevard due to be addressed at Tuesday’s meeting of the Plans and Programs Committee of the Board of Commissioners of the San Francisco Transportation Authority. The board includes all Board of Supervisors members.

Home-care providers to be given raises

Home-care providers who help the blind, elderly and disabled by performing household chores and providing nonmedical personal care will be given a raise starting this spring. The In-Home Supportive Service Program, which is funded by the San Francisco Human Services Agency, will increase their hourly wage from $10.65 to $10.95 on March 1. The wage will increase again Oct. 1 to either $11.20 or $11.50 per hour, depending upon whether the state provides more funding.

City may start enforcing law banning new billboards

The City may soon put force behind a five-year-old city law that prohibits new billboards from going up in San Francisco.

The City’s Planning Department has said it has been unable to enforce the law adopted by voters due to an unclear planning code, but Board of Supervisors President Aaron Peskin has authored a bill that sets up a clear process for enforcement and penalties. Those responsible for large illegal signs could face a fine as much as $2,500 per day per violation, and if a violator does not respond to a citation within 45 days the case is referred to the city attorney for further action.

The Board of Supervisors Land Use and Economic Development Committee sent the legislation on Monday to the full board for a vote next Tuesday.
