Weather forecasts show that Baltimore area residents should expect a messy winter storm in the next few days.

According a the National Weather Service forecast as of this morning, Maryland could get light snow tonight, followed by an chance of up to an inch of ice during the day on Tuesday.

State highway crews will be on alert throughout the evening and ready to roll with salt trucks as soon as the weather starts to change.

The precipitation could change to freezing rain and last through Tuesday night and possibility of snowfall or other precipitation lasts through Wednesday evening.

“We just want to tell the drivers to drive cautiously,” said David Brown, spokesman for the Baltimore City Department of Transportation. “If you don’t have be on the street then don’t, and be aware for other travelers. In icy conditions there really is not much you can do but stay off the road.”
