A neighborhood dealership

Essex, Md. (Map, News) - At Essex-based Aero Motors, community comes first.

The dealership, which specializes in used car sales, has a large client base coming from the Essex, Dundalk and Middle River areas, according to general manager Len Dennler.

“We started out as a neighborhood dealership,” said Dennler. “But through the computer and the Internet, we’ve starting serving people from D.C., Virginia and Pennsylvania.”

Aero Motors was founded in 1953 by Joe Eikenberg. He then sold the business to his sons, Joe and Gary who are currently co-owners of the business. As president, Joe Eikenberg Jr. oversees much of the dealership and specializes in financial consulting.

“I love having good people around me all day,” he said of the perks to owning his own dealership.

Dennler joined the company in 1985. Previously, he worked for more than two years at Tate Dodge in Glen Burnie in the finance department.

“After I was in the finance end down there [at Tate Dodge], I decided to go into sales, which looked a bit more attractive to me,” said Dennler. “I was looking for a dealership that was smaller and a bit more personalized, and I moved to this area when I met my wife.”

Born and raised in Brooklyn Park, Dennler knows a fair amount about the Baltimore region and its automobile consumer. In his twenty-plus years of experience, he has noted changes in the way financing companies structure their loans.

“There is a trend towards helping people that have had previous credit problems,” he said.

Eikenberg said that he’s witnessed the industry change simply because the population in Maryland has grown, and there are more cars on the road.

Aero Motors has 12 service bays and employs seven service staff in addition to sales staff and associates.

“We have a unique facility in that we have the ability to service what we sell immediately with full-time mechanics on the premises,” said Eikenberg. “The business has expanded because there are more cars on the road than ever before and because we have very competitive prices and quality automobiles.”

Dennler hopes for growth long into the future.

“Hopefully we see growth in both [sales and service departments], we are in business and we want all aspects to grow as we grow,” he said.

Dennler credits the business’ success to a reputation that proceeds it.

“Our reputation is based on what we’ve done day in and day out since 1953. Providing a good quality product for a fair price and servicing it after the fact,” Dennler said.
