A woman sustained life-threatening injuries in a collision Wednesday morning on northbound I-270 near Hyattstown, north of Clarksburg, that closed the interstate for 30 minutes, according to Maryland State Police.

The collision occurred at 6:42 a.m., when a Mercury Sabel driven by Evan Crump, 26, of Silver Spring, struck a Ford Explorer driven by Ricardo Rada, 48, of Rockville. Both vehicles lost control while traveling northbound and overturned, according to a press release issued by the state police.

Julie Roundtree, 25, of Acworth, Ga., a passenger in the Mercury Sable, was partially ejected and trapped in the vehicle, and was extricated by fire personnel. She was not wearing a seatbelt. A Maryland State Police helicopter transported her to Baltimore Shock Trauma.

The interstate was closed in both directions for about 30 minutes while the helicopter was on the ground, according to police.
