On the back of another come-from-behind victory at home, the George Washington men’s basketball team received its first votes in The Associated Press Top 25 poll this week. Well, just three votes, but having won five of their last six, the Colonials are making noise.

Q What is the mood around the team after receiving your first votes in the national poll this week?

A This is actually my first time hearing. During the season I get so entrenched on trying to get the team prepared for the next game that I just block a lot of things out. I really do, and that’s always been my way.

We’re not favorites in the Atlantic 10 yet. We haven’t gone on the road and played against some of the better teams, but tonight we’re playing St. Joseph’s, which is in my mind the statistically the best team in the league.

Q Cheyenne Moore said after Saturday’s win over Charlotte that it was probably his last game of the season, due to lingering issues with the recovery from the stress fracture in his leg. What is his status?

A I know he’s in a lot of pain, and doctors are evaluating him. We’ll see how he’s doing, but he should in uniform tonight.

Q Six-foot-8 freshman Damian Hollis had a breakout performance against the 49ers, including 2-for-3 shooting from 3-point range. Were you surprised, and where’s his natural position on the floor?

A That’s the way he’s been playing in practice, and he’s been getting more minutes every game. Down the road we’re going to need a third and fourth scorer. Someone’s got to step up, and you really saw that with Damian the other night. With GW, everybody’s got to play more than one position.

Q Now that you’re just outside the Top 25, what are your impressions of this upset-laden season so far?

A There’s just so much parity, and there are ton of talented freshmen. The parity makes it very dangerous for the Atlantic 10 because for some reason we don’t get as much respect around the country as we should for the teams we have, and we’ve always done well in the tournament.

Q With George Washington almost certain to be on the bubble for the NCAA Tournament, what tools and statistics do you use to figure out the best teams?

A I don’t. I can’t get into the RPI and all that. It’s too complicated and I just don’t understand it. If you listen to the prognosticators, after a win, you’re in, but after a loss, you’re out. What I do understand is that we’ve got to win games. You win as many games as you can, and hopefully you’ve done enough to get into the tournament.
