Two suspects allegedly carrying drugs led authorities from three police agencies on a high-speed chase during rush hour on the Bay Bridge on Wednesday, resulting in two crashes, two arrests and the closure of the bridge for approximately half an hour.

At about 4 p.m., Oakland police began pursuit of two people suspected of narcotics violations at the 23rd Avenue exit of Interstate 880. Driving a maroon Ford Ranger pickup truck, the two suspects led the authorities northbound on I-880, where they allegedly dumped out their windows plastic bags police say contained drugs.

The suspects led the chase straight through Interstate 80 traffic as Oakland police, with the help of California Highway Patrol motorcycle officers and San Francisco police, pursued the suspects westbound onto the bridge.

The chase, which reached speeds of up to 80 miles an hour, eventually ended when the truck crashed into the guard rail and rolled over. The suspects were then arrested.
