In the absence of any damaging economic news, gas prices should remain stable over the next couple of weeks to the end of the year, Towson-based AAA Mid-Atlantic reported.

“The relative stability of recent prices for both oil and gasoline — and the continued absence of any dramatic news affecting oil or gasoline supplies — is an indicator the cost of fuel should remain fairly stable the last few weeks of the year,” said Ragina Averella, manager of public and government affairs for AAA Mid-Atlantic.

Gas prices took a dramatic fall, dropping 96 cents from late August to mid-October, but they started to rise around Thanksgiving and have gradually increased by about one cent per gallon per day since then.

The average price for a gallon of self-serve regular gas in Maryland was $2.30 per gallon Tuesday, about the same price as Monday’s average in Maryland, according to AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report.
