Howard County (Map, News) - Medical and health professionals are needed as volunteers for the Howard County Medical Reserve Corps.

The group is seeking physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other health care workers, such as dentists, veterinarians, epidemiologists and infectious disease specialists. Mental-health professionals, therapists and social workers are also needed. Medical Reserve Corps volunteers support local emergency response teams and medical professionals during natural or manmade disasters, such as chemical or hazardous material spills, flu, hurricanes or floods, and terrorist attack.

Volunteers would help with immunization clinics, disease outbreak support, health education and other day-to-day health-related duties. Some volunteers would support the medical professionals via phone consultations.

Volunteers may receive training on health topics and earn continuing education credits.

They also will be prepared to help family and neighbors during an emergency. For more information, call 240-426-2528 or visit www.hcmrc.com.
