As satiny smooth as fine whisky, Nita Paul’s jazzy vocals go down easy. Her extraordinary voice slips and swirls around each song like liquid gold. Baltimore audiences can sample her delicious style Wednesday at the Tremont Park Hotel’s Celebrities Lounge.

“Her talent for captivating arrangements, memorable melodies and catchy hooks is simply spellbinding,” said Emmy-nominated writer and producer Steven Fischer. Nita also won accolades from Russ Moss of WJZ-TV who described her voice as “effervescent and as intoxicating as champagne.”

Nita started out studying classical music and won praise and awards for both voice and cello. She performed with both the New York and Philadelphia Philharmonic Orchestras and sang at the memorial service for Martin Luther King Jr. in New York’s Central Park.

Over the years, Nita found herself falling in love with jazz. “Classical music has so many rules, but jazz gives me the freedom to improvise and convey deeper, personal feelings,” she said.

“Coming to Baltimore and studying with jazz great Ethel Ennis was a wonderful, creative opportunity,” said Nita. “I even had the honor of performing with legendary guitarist Les Paul.” She became involved with the Baltimore Songwriters Association and started performing with its founder, Paul Iwancio, and his pop band, “The Art of Meaning.”

On her recently released CD, “Tradewinds of my Dreams,” Nita Paul uplifts jazz classics such as “Crazy” and “Bye, Bye Blackbird” with bluesy interpretations. But it is her originals that really energize her audiences, showcasing her flair for comedy as well as rhythmic style.
