Gov.-elect Martin O’Malley has arrived.

He has a sandwich named after him.

After capturing their votes, O’Malley will now look to win the support of Marylanders’ taste buds with his new Governor Martin O’Malley sandwich.

Chick & Ruth’s Delly on Main Street in Annapolis is naming a sandwich after O’Malley.

“The governor-elect is very excited to have a sandwich named after him,” O’Malley spokesman Rick Abbruzzese said. “It’s a long-standing tradition in Annapolis, and it’s fun to be a part of it.”

Restaurant owner Ted Levitt said that O’Malley wants roast beef on the sandwich.

“I don’t know yet what exactly will be on the sandwich, but it’s completely up to him,” said Levitt.

Levitt explained that they will give O’Malley advice on what to put on it, “just like he gets advice on political issues, but it’s his final decision … he has the veto power.”

Any combination is possible, from the meats and cheeses to the sides — french fries or onion rings — and even the drink. Former Lt. Gov. Michael Steele took advantage of this privilege when he opted to have his salad come with french fries.

The O’Malley sandwich will have to compete with other popular choices, such as the Congressman Ben Cardin reuben, County Executive Jim Smith’s steak and cheese wrap and another 55 named sandwiches.

Levitt said that O’Malley’s sandwich will be in the $6 range. The sandwich will not be added to the menu until mid-January, just in time for the beginning of his term.
