BALTIMORE (Map, News) - The University of Maryland-Baltimore County women’s volleyball team will close out its America East Conference schedule with matches at Maine Friday and New Hampshire Sunday after it won its home finale Tuesday with a 3-0 sweep of Navy in a non-conference showdown.
Freshman setter Kira Giles had 32 assists, six digs and six kills in the win for UMBC, which is now 13-14 overall and 5-4 in America East play. Jessie Sims had 13 kills and 19 digs for Navy (11-18).
MORGAN STATE: Ivanti Bush and Jeniqua Moran had 14 kills apiece in helping the Bears improve to 19-8 overall and 3-6 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference with a 3-0 sweep at Coppin State Tuesday. Indira Laurencin had 13 kills and four blocks for Coppin State (7-20, 3-6).
TOWSON: Junior setter Kimberly Snider earned Colonial Athletic Conference player of the week honors after averaging 13.5 assists per game in wins over UNC-Wilmington and Georgia State. Snider currently ranks sixth on Towson’s single-season assist list with 1,310 in 28 matches. Towson (20-8, 11-5), completes the regular season with home matches against CAA champion Virginia Commonwealth Friday and William & Mary Saturday.
LOYOLA: Senior Blair Snider earned Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference’s defensive player of the week honors after she averaged 5.11 digs and 1.11 blocks a game last week in matches against conference foes Iona and Manhattan. These totals included 25 digs and four blocks in a 3-1 win over Iona. In addition, she had 21 digs, six blocks and 23 kills in a loss to Manhattan. Loyola is now 8-22 on the season.
GOUCHER: The Gophers (16-14) finished their season with a winning record for the first time since 1998 after losing in the first round to Marymount in the first round of the Capital Athletic Conference tournament.
JOHNS HOPKINS: Senior libero Lizzie Kay and sophomore setter Amanda Lewis represented the Blue Jays on the All-Centennial Conference teams this season. Kay made the conference’s second team after leading the Blue Jays with 599 digs. She is the conference and school leader in career digs (2,504). Lewis received honorable-mention recognition after leading her team with 1,189 assists while averaging a school-record 13.07 a game.
