WASHINGTON (Map, News) - Dennis Moore is an officially registered write-in candidate for District mayor, and a Republican to boot. But don’t ignore him or write him off. Moore has a long platform of issues and he’s aggressively used the Internet to distribute his messages of accountability and prosperity for all. For more information on the Moore candidacy, visit www.mooreforpeople.com.

What is your No. 1 issue?

Genuine socioeconomic empowerment for all D.C. families is my primary issue. The District is headed toward major economic and fiscal failure if it doesn’t attract and keep more families. As detailed on my Web site, effective neighborhood schools, genuinely affordable housing, accessible health care and vital community retail services are critical keys to D.C.’s economic survival. Condos for singles, baseball stadiums and other short-sighted economic initiatives will weaken our long-term stability.

What appeals to you about the Republican Party?

Like all political parties over time, much of the current flavor of my party has become tainted with incompetent political parasites. Rather than focusing on effective socioeconomic empowerment, genuine fiscal responsibility, administrative accountability and good governance — too many Republicans lost sight of our roots in social and economic justice, and accountable government. Then again, many of the negatives in certain factions of the GOP resemble the usual and expected governance of D.C.’s Democratic public officials.

Can a Republican win in the District?

Only a progressive Republican who is firmly focused on the actual economic and social needs of everyday District residents has a chance to become mayor or any other D.C. public official. This Republican is committed to real action, rather than political rhetoric and partisan politricks.

Do you believe you have a chance?

Realistically, in 2006 my chances are as good as a snowflake in South Hell. Then again, I can win by a miracle if most of the two-thirds of registered District voters who didn’t vote in the primary easily write-in “Dennis Moore” on Nov. 7. After 30-plus years of control by Democratic public officials, who else can be blamed for consistently failing schools, overpriced housing, dysfunctional public safety, and the undeclared war on District families and taxpayers?
