David Von Storch, managing partner and founder of VIDA Fitness, scans his finger at the entrance of his fitness club. Rather than having to scan in a card or show an ID, patrons of VIDA Fitness in Washington on Tuesday have their finger scanned before entering the new fitness club.
WASHINGTON (Map, News) - At VIDA Fitness, the latest business venture from Capital City Brewing Co. founder David von Storch, the approach goes beyond basic health and exercise to incorporate the latest electronic wizardry. With its cutting-edge fingerprint scan ID system, wireless technology throughout the building and live feeds from the Verizon Center events playing at television sets on the gym’s cardio equipment, von Storch designed VIDA with an equal amount of attention on technology.

“We’re trying to make it an enhanced experience for the customer,” said von Storch.

The club’s most visible technology is its member ID system. Instead of getting an ID card, members get a fingerprint scan that is stored in VIDA’s database. Using touchpads throughout the building, members scan their finger to check into the club, as well as make appointments at the spa or salon. “When you scan a car, you can have someone else’s,” von Storch said. “You can’t have someone else’s fingerprint.”

The technology was developed by M2SYS in Atlanta and integrated into a health club setting by Silver Spring-based KI Software. The system essentially uses biometric technology, but takes it one step further with the unique way that it encodes the fingerprint scan. Most biometric fingerprint scans attach a pin number to the scan, said Al Noshirvani, president and CEO of KI Software, and the fingerprint is used as a way to validate the pin number. But with VIDA’s system, the fingerprint scan stands alone. After a member has their finger scanned, the print is turned into a digital code of letters and numbers and the original fingerprint scan is trashed, eliminating potential privacy issues about having such information on file.

While biometric technology has been making headlines recently for its security applications, von Storch said he decided to invest in the system for his commercial venture because it makes a more seamless experience for the gym’s clients.

“Members control their relationship with us without having a pin number, without having to remember anything,” he said.

VIDA Fitness appears to be the only club in the country so far using the enhanced biometric system.

“Health clubs are probably less technically inclined than [most] delis,” Noshirvani said. “For someone like VIDA to embrace technology the way they have to solve real business needs, really serves as a differentiator.”

and about the FBI comment. Do you really have a friend who has the low down buddy. Is that why he's honored by the mayor of D.C. He's apart of the Fairfax county Valor society/ Police, and he's well connected with a national football team. Oh that's right.. you have the low down.. Right? instead of using the FBI.. why don't you just come out and say you were fired from Easterns, and have a personal chip on your shoulder. It's a lot easier than sounding CRAZY!

Instead of being jealous of Eastern Motors.. why don't you try and become something in life. It's obvious that you wish you had an ounce of what he has, and the only thing you know how to do is tell ridiculous stories about "drug money" (blah, blah, blah). Get a life.. Dude no really .. get a life. Go work or become something great in life. Oh that's right you probably have issues in that department or otherwise you would be to busy in your life working, and living that you wouldn't have time to hate on his life. It's hard hearing a grown man complain about another grown man being successful. You have more crayons than me.. so uugghh your a drug dealer. Give me a break.

I never asked for the examiner, I don't want it and now it is showing up on my doorstep, this does not make me a "customer" or a "reader" all it makes me is annoyed and feeling harassed. Often there are three or more papers on my lawn and in the gutter outside my door. This is neither responsive nor responsible of the examiner, stop delivering it to people who don't sign up for it. Other papers like the washington post have accurate delivery, aggressive over marketing like this is just one more sign that this is a predatory sales circular masquerading as a "news"paper

I work for Eastern motors myself and he has friends that work for him that are fake back stabbers they shake your hand but talk behind your back at the same time. I dont know Robert in person but Iwould hope that he is not this way but his friends that work for him are above the law meaning they can get a person fired any time they want even if they are wrong in a situation but that drives away hard workers maybe Robert should not have friends in top positions it can be mis leading and really not fair right is right wrong is wrong no matter if its Roberts friends or not.
