Annapolis resident Kathy Meckley knows firsthand how busy life can get trying to juggle a personal and a professional life. She owns Transforming Spaces, an organization and interior re-design business, offering services to help clients reclaim their homes and lives from clutter.
“I think people just get so busy … the paper gets away from them,” Meckley said.
After eight years in real estate, Meckley left the industry and founded a property management business with her husband. This move afforded her the opportunity to work from home and spend more time with her family. After that venture grew into a full time job for Meckley, the couple made another career shift which involved Meckley opening up shop as a organization expert.
With the help of a friend from church with expertise in interior design, Meckley began building her business book. “Our target client is largely women who are professionals who are raising children now and life has maybe gotten a little crazy for them,” she said.
Meckley helps clients with projects ranging in size from organizing a front-hall coat closet to redesigning a family room to turning a spare kitchen into a home office. Clients can spend $60 for an in-home consultation, or $195 for a complete consultation and custom assessment plan detailing changes and improvements that can be made.
“Sometimes people hire me to help them do something as simple as pick out a paint color,” Meckley said.
As much as possible, Meckley tries to use items that her clients already own during the reorganization and redesign process. With a background in real estate and property management, Meckley said her next goal is to expand her business into home staging, helping homeowners prepare their property for sale.

Seriously, wouldn't you love to have a little house in the model of the Shire from Lord of the Rings? How energy efficient?!?! Keep the soil on top of the roof and around most of the walls and you keep about a 60-65 degree temperature year-round. Little need for AC; limited need for heat (especially since the insulation is good). Problems: need a dehumidifier. Also would have a concern for mold as well as the need to mow and water the roof on occassions.
