Lockheed Martin Transportation and Security Solutions announced plans Wednesday to more than double the number of workers in its recently opened offices in Greenbelt.

The security solutions division, whose clients include the U.S. Census Bureau and the National Archives and Records Administration, currently has 125 employees and 75 subcontractors. Within two years, the division president wants to have 300 employees and an increased number of subcontractors as well.

“It’s good business for us,” said Judy Marks, adding both the census bureau and the records administration have facilities in the county. “All of this made sense to us to do business here in Prince George’s County.”

Marks also announced the division’s partnership with nearby Eleanor Roosevelt High School, a Prince George’s County Public School that specializes in science and technology.

Lockheed Martin will offer internships and help sponsor career days at the school, Marks said, and employees will mentor the school’s students.

“It’s our goal to give the young adults from Eleanor Roosevelt High School perhaps a glimpse of their future,” Marks said.

Greenbelt’s mayor urged Lockheed Martin employees to discover the community where they work, and perhaps consider making a bigger commitment.

“How many of you live in Greenbelt?” asked Judy Davis, scanning the crowd until she spied a single hand. “Oh, there’s one.”

The first division employees moved from offices in Rockville and Beltsville about 15 months ago. The most recent group of workers arrived in June.
