A 23-year-old man was taken to University of Maryland Shock Trauma after he was stabbed in the arm and torso during a home invasion in Carroll County, police said.

A second victim, an 18-year-old man, suffered a knife wound to his hand, refused medical treatment at the scene, but was later treated at Carroll Hospital Center and released, police said. According to police, two men, one of them armed with a knife, showed up at a residence in the 5500 block of Jim Pickett Road in Sykesville just after midnight Saturday and announced a robbery.

State police took Frankie Doyle, 21, of the 400 block of Logan Drive, Westminster, and Mark Haga, 26, of the 1100 block of Pouder Road, Sykesville, into custody at a gas station after investigating an attempted robbery in Sykesville less than a mile away.

“This is a quiet neighborhood. A lot of people have grown up here and spent their whole lives on this road,” said Brad Rees, a neighbor who lives with his family across the street from where the crime occurred. He said he was woken by screaming and profanity and called the incident “disturbing.”

Doyle and Haga were charged with attempted armed robbery and theft, reckless endangerment and assault. They were held without bail over the weekend at Carroll County Detention Center, where an officer said they are scheduled for a bail review hearing today.

Police asked that anyone with information regarding this case contact the Westminster barracks at (410) 386-3000.
