D.C. Department of Transportation officials will begin milling down portions of E Street in Northwest this weekend as part of a weeklong resurfacing project expected to last through Labor Day.

DDOT spokeswoman Karyn LeBlanc said the road will remain open, but single-lane closures are expected to cause delays during peak traffic hours. Work crews are expected to work from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Work will begin Saturday between 10th Street and 13th Street near Federal Triangle and is expected to be completed by the middle of next week.

Nearly 17,000 vehicles travel through this section, just two blocks from the White House, on an average weekday, according to a 2002 traffic estimate.

Construction crews will then begin on the section of E Street between Third and Sixth streets near Judiciary Square and is expected to wrap up by Sept. 5. An average of 11,500 vehicles travel along this three-block stretch on an average weekday, according to a recent study.

Traffic between 10th and 13th streets likely will spill onto Pennsylvania Avenue during rush hours and could cause delays during peak periods, officials said.

Officials also said daytime parking spots are likely to be affected and ask commuters to plan accordingly.
