Authorities say a Marine was stabbed outside a San Diego bar by a civilian who thought he was breaking up a fight.

San Diego police Officer Brad Ruff says two Marines had been drinking and were play fighting early Saturday outside the bar in the Pacific Beach neighborhood.

A third man interceded, stabbed one of the Marines and then left the scene.

The victim didn't realize he had been stabbed until he arrived by taxi at the gate of the Marine Corps Air Station at Miramar.
