An elections board in northeastern Pennsylvania has ordered a recount of all votes cast in the Nov. 3 general election.

The Lackawanna County Board of Elections took action Thursday in the wake of a faulty vote count for at least two candidates. Republican leaders had asked for the recounts based on a computer coding error that cost a Scranton councilwoman and a candidate for tax collector as many as 2,452 straight-party votes.

The board ordered a manual recount of votes in nine election contests, including Scranton mayor, council, tax collector and school board. For all other races countywide, the board ordered a manual recount of a 2 percent sample of ballots.

Finally, the board ordered a countywide recount of all ballots using a high-speed counting machine.
