About 40 Bremerton residents complained to police and state Corrections Department officials that eight sex offenders living in one block is too many.

Officials told the residents at the Tuesday night community meeting they couldn't tell offenders where to live.

Corrections Secretary Eldon Vail says clusters of sex offenders are common around Washington. He says in group settings they often monitor each other.

Police said they monitor offenders on probation. They urged people to report suspicious behavior.

Police said there are 211 Level Three sex offenders in Bremerton, 792 in Kitsap County and 20,000 in Washington.

One landlord who attended the meeting urged residents to give the offenders a second chance.
