Bartholomew Smith led police to the body of his neighbor, 51-year-old Karen Kirk, in her apartment the day after Christmas. He was charged with killing her during a sexual assault.
On Tuesday, Smith was convicted of murder for Kirk's strangulation, and rape for the sexual assault of another woman in June 2008.
Smith faces a maximum penalty of life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder conviction. He could face a consecutive 25 years for the rape conviction.
State Supreme Court Justice John Brunetti set sentencing for Dec. 11.
