A Tempe man has been sentenced to nearly five years in federal prison in connection with a string of bank robberies.

Federal prosecutors say 31-year-old Jorge Gutierrez was given a 57-month sentence Monday after pleading guilty in August to robbing three backs and federal credit unions in Phoenix, Tempe and Chandler since October 2008.

In each case, authorities say the robber covered his face and presented notes to the tellers demanding money and indicating he had a gun.

Chandler police arrested Gutierrez on March 24 as he was fleeing the Desert Schools Federal Credit Union after a robbery that netted about $2,300.
