Pittsburgh Post-Gazette sports writer Dave Molinari has been recognized by the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto for his work covering the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Molinari received the Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award on Monday, given each year by the Professional Hockey Writers Association for newspaper writers "whose words have brought honor to journalism and hockey."

Award winners are recognized in the Hall of Fame, separately from players and "builders," those recognized for their work in promoting the game.

Molinari has covered the Penguins for 27 seasons with the Post-Gazette and its predecessor, the Pittsburgh Press.
