NYer faces animal cruelty charge

This is MAYHEM! What ever happened to freedom of speech? The individuals who actually struck the animals to death should be prosecuted (perhaps it was the artist), but you can't send someone to jail for showing the world know it happened. Hey, writing is a form of art--should reporting it be illegal? And Animal Rights materials aren't "propaganda" - propaganda implies it's in some way untrue. Just because you don't like the truth, and you'd be happier not having to deal with your own conscience, does not make the truth propaganda.

The people who run that gallery should be taking a long hard look at their personal morality. What disfunction of their collective brains suggested that these videos constituted "art"in any sense? As for the person (was it the"artist") who made the video, well, he should be arrested and charged along with the individuals involved in the killings for killings sake.

I've been waiting a long time to see PETA and other animal rights activists STOP displaying the horrible acts of cruelty. I understand the impact of such propaganda but as a supporter of these types of organizations I find this kind of display nauseating and grotesque. If this law STOPS this kind of display I'm for it.

While animal abuse is wrong and perpetrators should be punished, I'm more deeply concerned that so many people confusing the illegal with the immoral. Americans have the right to only be tried for the crimes they commit (such as animal abuse), not the crimes they might commit in the future (such as child abuse, as other readers quite groundlessly suggest). Nor should an artist who simply *documented* animal abuse be punished. Civil liberties — like freedom of speech — is vital to a democracy, even if it allows extremists to make blatantly moralizing, unfounded allegations.

This woman needs to wise up. If, as it is alleged, the "man" involved, Ariel Alcides Aspedilla, indeed did what he is accused of doing to a defenseless Chihuahua, he can do such things to people as well--*including her and the child to come*. If he is found guilty, she should not only refuse to forgive him, but cut him out of her life forever. Animal abuse, particularly when as heinous as is alleged here or when repeated, calls, not for forgiveness or namby-pamby "understanding," but savage punishment, including not only stiff prison time, but social ostracism and, yes, hatred. If there is a hell, there is a very special place reserved there for those who do such things as the defendant in this case is accused of doing. And they fully belong there. In this life, they must also receive all the justice the law allows us to give them. As with those who abuse children or other family members, only when animal abusers are punished as they deserve will we start to see such abuse declin

The next step for this sick type of person would be to use humans maybe babies or small children next instead of animals and try and make it ok because it is "art". passing laws would be a good thing to stop animal cruelty for being passed off as "art". It is not art. It takes NO talent at all to do horrible things to another living creature. This person is just trying to justify their evil nature by calling it art.

Anyone that has that much anger towards a defenseless animal definetly has anger management issues. The fact that this young women chooses to stay with this individual just because she is pregnant is amazing. I would say she has self esteem issues.

the art institute is really a non-instructional fine arts college, so it's not surprising it will present what is considered art when it's not. having been there only briefly, I would say much of their art among the students is borderline pornography. consequently their exhibitions are without forethought.

I'd think this woman should be afraid for her future baby. If he can kick a 10 lb. dog to death! then he will eventually hurt a child. What a stupid woman. Shame on her.

I feel that dog fighting should not be taken lighthly. It is a serious form of animal cruelty and those who participate in this act should be charged for attemted murder. I so love dogs.

PLEASE EVERYBODY, IF YOU KNOW OF ANY ANIMALS BEING ABUSED GET AHOLD OF THE AUTHORITIES,IT WILL ONLY TAKE A FEW MINUTES OF YOUR TIME,I WISH PEOPLE WHO ABUSE ANIMALS WOULD JUST GO TO HELL RIGHT NOW,BUT FIRST MAKE THEM SUFFER THE WAY THEY DID THE ANIMALS! I HATE PEOPLE THAT ABUSE ANIMALS!
