Butler, who finished with 83 yards and two TDs on 18 carries, capped off a nine play, 93-yard game-winning drive for the Blue Hens (6-3, 4-3 Colonial Athletic Association). The drive was sparked by a 72-yard pass from Pat Devlin to Phillip Thaxton.
Earlier in the drive, the Pride's Ray McDonough intercepted a tipped pass and returned it for a touchdown. However, the play was called back due to a Hofstra offsides penalty.
Devlin finished with 185 yards on 14-of-22 passing.
With 49 seconds remaining in the game, Delaware's Benard Makumbi tackled Hofstra's Cory Christopher on the Delaware 20-yard line to seal the game as the Pride attempted to convert a fourth-and-one.
The Blue Hens went up 21-7 when Mark Duncan caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Devlin with 31.9 seconds left before halftime.
Christopher was 16-of-24 for 157 yards for the Pride (4-5, 2-4).
Trailing 14-0 in the second quarter, the Pride then scored 24 of the game's next 31 points.
Christopher's 14-yard scoring pass to Anthony Nelson with 4:55 remaining in the third quarter gave the Pride a 24-21 lead, capping 17 unanswered points.
The Pride pulled within 21-14 a 1-yard run by Everette Benjamin with 3 seconds remaining until halftime. Benjamin's run was set up by a 32-yard return by Deron Mayo on a short kick, putting Hofstra on the Delaware 37-yard line.
