Salinas courthouse workers have settled their lawsuit claiming they were injured by asbestos during courthouse renovations.

Plaintiffs attorney Anne Kepner said Thursday that terms of the settlement are confidential, but all 190 plaintiffs will be compensated.

Monterey County Superior Court Judge Albert Maldonado, his former bailiff and a maintenance worker sued two contractors in 2006, claiming they suffered respiratory problems caused by toxic exposure. Other plaintiffs soon followed, seeking medical expenses and damages against Skanska USA Building and Nova Partners Inc.

Both companies pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges that were later dropped after they completed terms of probation.

Another company has since taken over over the project, expected to be completed in December.
