Officer cleared in shooting of suspect

For those of you that have mixed up stories. I was eastbound on Rt. 50 yesterday in the fast line when I saw the police lights on the west bound of Kent Narrows bridge. Then I saw head lights heading right for me in the fast lane. I swerved to the middle lane to avoid hitting him head on. This is also what had happen to one of the police officers. I am also a formal police officer and a father of 5 kids. I am so thankful that I didn't hit the individual head on. Thankfully no one else was hurt during this chase. Its unfortunate this individual had pulled a gun but the police officer also has a family.

Sonia, are you crazy? The officers stopped TO HELP THE MOTORISTS. (Did you read the article before you posted?) I would hope a "business man" leaving work would do the same, and stop and help people apparently stranded. I don't think TPD believes everyone is out to get them, but are you telling me that they should believe that a man who pulls a gun on them after they try to help him is NOT A THREAT!?!? All I can say is after reading what you have to say about this, I hope you follow your own advice and mind your own business. I would love nothing more than to never have to deal with people like you. Your ignorance astounds me...

These were off duty cops they should mind there own business!! When a business man goes home he leaves his work there thats what the City Of Tucson cops should do!!! This was a good guy that was having some problems the truck could have been replaced but not this YOUNG MANS LIFE!!! TUCSON CITY COPS NEED TO REALIZE EVERYONE ISNT OUT TOM GET THEM SPCIALLY IF THEY WERE IN CILVIAN CLOTHING!! YOU AR JUST ONE OF US WHEN YOU STEP OUT OF THAT UNIFORM!!

As to the Officer Involved shooting.....This man was only 22. He inflicted the wounds on his wrists and then called 911 so the police would show up. When they did he went towards them which resulted in his death. Has anyone thought that maybe what happened not more then 5 miles away a month or two ago influenced what happened here? It is about the same scenario except Jesse didn't take any hostages. He just counted on Milwaukie Police shooting to kill. I live at those condos and the police had at least 20 feet from where he lay dead. I would agree that training to shoot limbs may help, but anyone in law enforcement or even the military will tell you that all the training in the world may never stop one's fight or flight response. That is why there are so many "friendly fire" shootings in the military. I think this is all just sad. Sad for everyone including the family of Jesse and the officers involved. When I go check the mail I will always see Jesse receiving CPR only a few feet away

Why do they have to shoot to kill?

It sounds to me like the man inside the restroom was having a stroke- something all emergency personnel SHOULD be educated on of symptoms. Unfortunately this is not the case. Symptoms of stroke (if not massive enough to cause immediate unconciousness or death) often include confusion, impaired speech and/or vision and loss of mobility on one side of the body. Even if the stroke victim understands what is being said to him, he may be unable to respond in an appropriate manner, depending on what part of the brain has been affected by the stroke.

When you resort to low blows & cheap shots it doesn't say much for you when you do. Your message would be better understood without it.

Get this right. It has happened I am not with you on playing the blame game or justifying the action of the event. Or criticizing the character of the individual who has paid the consequence for his choices. I am looking ahead to the next situation...so that the person is brought to JUSTICE but not to his DEATH. It is inevitable that a similiar situation should arise again and with hope that it won't end in this manner, if addressed properly this time around

It is unfortunate that low blows keep turning up...I guess I can understand that they are because it is a sensitive topic and everyone feels strongly about their own view. But do try to do your best and not go there. I am more concerned that better steps are taken to handle this situation so that the individual is brought to justice not to his death. So this incident has occured it is done. In the future, there should be specific steps to HELP prevent it from taking place again. She said he said, etc. A better plan...procedure to help it. This time he had a history so you judge him using that. Next time that may not be the case...

The reader who said stop playing the race card is right. If you want respect then stop writing the walls and placing 40 oz bottles of beer with graffiti on them around the shrine. Stop the graffiti and drinking malt liquor. Also, stop wearing basketball jerseys that are three sizes too big. Then again, maybe the guys in the 'hood do that so we won't see your pant hanging below your rear.

The comment by Letty refering the family of the suspect to a local attorney should be investigated by the State Bar. This is shameless ambulance chasing at its worst. I'll bet it was the attorney or someone acting on his behalf that posted the message. If I were a lawyer (I am not because my parents were married when I was born) I would be ashamed to know this low life ambulance chaser is part of the profession.

Was the victim an illegal? If not, why did he surrender in Spanish?

That is not my argument. It would be helpful it CCPD would train officers to shoot not in the head. This situation should be handled with care by the necessary authority so that in the future it is addressed in a more responsible manner so that the person is brought to JUSTICE but not to his DEATH. If Sylvester had pulled over in the first place and not have run from the police he would still be alive today. Having served in the military he should have known to pull over and obey the police. Even ifthe officers had their weopon pulled that is no excuse for running from the police.

I went to school with Silver I just saw him last week and he told me he was expecting another child it just hurts and I feel for his family, his son, and his child on the way. He will be in my heart and prayers.

It is unfortunate that this wasn't handled in a more appropriate manner. My hope is that in the future the procedure in which this situation occured doesn't repeat itself. That the blame game doesn't occur and the actual consequences of the choices made are played out. The Villasana boy and his family have suffered terrible consequence. It is important the the Corpus Christi Police Department address the necessary consequences due to the police officers on duty. This is a sad story, I am sad for all involved on both sides.

I feel sorry for the mother of the son that was shot. As parents we try to do what is right for our children/adults, to assure their safety and the safety of others. The mother told 911, that her son was 6 feet tall and was medically ill. Does anyone understand what medically ill is? You have no control of what you are doing and who to at the time you are having a mental setback. This is a sickness just like cancer except it never goes away. Individuals can get help, but when trying to regulate the medication problems can occur. I personally, do not think that Chesterfield police have the knowledge or experience to handle mentally ill individuals. There was no reason at all that there should have been a death that occurred that evening if the correct individuals had been sent to the call? Why call the police for help? You tell us!!! There has been a lot of talk about how the different districts are trying to train their force in these areas. Why is Chesterfield so far behind?

what i like to know is what a mother be doing with her child at that time of the morning her child should be at home sleeping!!!

What I would like to know is what was the driver of the car doing that cause them to stop the car? Was she speeding? Did he pass a stop sign? What probable cause did they have to stop her? The police cannot just stop people because they look like parolees.

No one knows whythings happen,but if i knew my life was in danger i would of done the samething.

Did anyone ever consider the fact that this is a 37 year old mother driving erratically while leading police on a high speed pursuit of 100+ mph and bumping cards with her own 13 month old child in the car? And you're criticizing the police??? Not that I have the right to determine whether or not she was wrongfully killed, but did you ever stop to consider what she was running from in the first place?

I live in Upsate NY. I can't beleive how pathetic the cops are in Sunny California. Must be the water or something. After viewing the footage it appears the cops in that area are immigrants. This would explain why they shoot first then ask questions later. I hope the officer that shot and killed the mom is happy with himself. Be proud and accomplished. I saw footage of the chase and I have a hard time believing the woman driver could have been extremely intoxicated seeing how she was able to maneuver the car so well. Regardless, I am shocked to see how the police handled the situation. It is not the first time they must have dealt with a drunk driver who was out of control and whether they knew there was a child in the car or not, I don't think it was right to shoot her.

The Fresno police murdered this boy. They did not identify themselves and he did not know they were there. They assumed that he knew they were there. The police department is a murderous machine.

It is real pathetic when a jury gets lied to. That's a law broken. No one stold Olsen's vehicle. He was driving it himself and then letting his friend Main drive it down to the area where Olsen hoped to find a dead Pete as Olsen shot to kill him. It is scary because I think if Olsen did find a murdered Pete, him and Main would have hid his body or thrown it in the river A lying Olsen is so used to covering up. Pete did not steal that vehicle and that is a fact. Pete did not threaten Olsen and that is a fact. Why did the jury ignore those facts? Well, the law is against perjury and if someone commits perjury they need to be fined for that. The prosecutor should have objected when the defense tried to make Pete out as a car thief. It is so unfair. Olsen actually got upset that he didn't kill Pete and said, "Damn." when he found Pete wasn't dead. He needs to be in jail, Olsen for lying, Main and Tucker too for lying.

there's more to this story then what the daughter is telling you! what about the release of a man after 15yrs been in jail does everything right from getting a job , buying a car,and a apartment getting and surporting his ungradeful bipoler daughter who wanted to go down south to sell her body and to take her daughter with her to a unsafe place.he loved his children and would do anything for them.it's sad that it came to this point but, after doing 15yrs who what's to go back to HELL? the police are just doing there job. they were responding to an ARMED robbey. what were they supposed to do. They believed that the man had a gun. They are constantly writing graffiti on the walls, which has increased with all the RIP STIZ and gang stuff, and every seems to ignore that fact that a crime, may not have been robbery, but a crime had been committed. I lve in the city and the immidiate area where this happened. Steven did not carry any weapon.he was scared of that cop because of prior beatings at the hands of this cop for no reason. But the truth will come out and the writers that are fast to judge this young man will see. Just because they are cops does not mean they are always doing right. THINK ABOUT IT..... I am grateful your writer chose the words police "killed a man". In other articles today, this young man is referred to as an "alleged robbery suspect." Wow, what a difference! Thank you Examiner! The dead man was the youngest son of a mother and father whose hearts are forever broken. The young man was unarmed and going out on a date, for pete's sake. He gets shot and killed for mistaken identity, not once but 3 times in the back! Shame on you Huntington Park police. Let's hope the LA County Sheriff's Department can investigate this case thoroughly, and at least put this officer on an extended leave of absence with NO PAY to think about this deadly mistake.

He became mentally ill and was let into a care center and later relocated to a group home in 800 Block 7th Street. As one of his closest family member, I am very sorry that he run from Somalia so that he can save his life and build and new future but to be shot by reckless cop in Washington Dc.
