Crews worked through the night to finish repairs to the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, but officials still had no firm idea of when the span would open to traffic.

State Transportation Department spokeswoman Lauren Wonder says the bridge will remain closed Saturday morning and evening while crews continue cutting and grinding parts so they do not rub together.

She says crews are working around the clock to get the repairs done as quickly, efficiently and safely as possible.

Work began Tuesday night after two rods and a crossbar installed over Labor Day weekend to repair a crack failed, sending 5,000 pounds of metal into rush hour traffic.
