D.C. officials are offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old girl.

Mayor Adrian Fenty and Police Chief Cathy Lanier announced the award money Wednesday.

Police say Kenyetta Nicholson-Stanley was talking to a security guard at the Edgewood Terrace housing complex in northeast Washington earlier this month when the gunman started shooting, striking the girl. The guard returned fire.

Nicholson-Stanley later died at a hospital.
