Newark Mayor Cory Booker, who has been actively campaigning for New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's re-election, is getting financial support from Bloomberg's longtime accountant.

The New York Times reported on its Web site Tuesday that Martin J. Geller has contributed $26,000 to Booker's 2010 re-election committee. The donation was made about a month after Booker, a Democrat, endorsed Bloomberg, an independent running as a Republican.

Anne Fenton, a spokeswoman for Bloomberg's Democratic opponent, William C. Thompson Jr., accused the Bloomberg camp of paying for Booker's endorsement.

But Howard Wolfson, the Bloomberg campaign's chief media strategist, dismissed that idea, saying that Booker and Bloomberg have become friends and "form a mutual admiration society."
