Re:Schwarzenegger will veto gay marriage bill: Kudos’ to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger for having the guts and courage to want to ban Gay Marriage and Civil Unions in the state of California. As a Gay man, I commend Governor Schwarzenegger and any other politician that has the insight to see through this Gay Marriage sham. Let the people of Vermont "VOTE" if they wish to live in a gay State. The PEOPLE VOTED on civil unions and they were ignored by our politicians who were bought$$$ by the gay and lesbian lobby!

Get over it! How hard is it for people to understand that Marriage is defined as a man and women. How perverted does our culture have to go to allow a lifestyle choice to dictate hundreds of years of definitions of marriage!

I have always supported gay/lesbian rights. I have always viewed gay and lesbians as a whole the most peaceful loving people. They are my friends and good people in the community, but that face is now gone. I have no more respect for them as a whole. Hypocrisy is the theme of their violent demonstrations on the mormon people. Their signs are ignorant and they have lost any respect that they have taken 20 years to earn. I will never forget what they have done this past week, forgive yes, forget NO!

This is stupid and self defeating. Rather than trying to change their opinion, they are making these people enemies for life. And carrying out pogroms like this against people who oppose gay marriage based on their religious beliefs borders on bigotry. "Anyone who steps into a political fight aimed at taking away fundamental rights from fellow citizens opens themselves up to criticism," said Wolfson. "The First Amendment gives them the right of freedom of speech and to support political views, but people also have the right to criticize them."

Opponents of gay marriage in California are suffering the effects of a childish tantrum thrown by those who lost on Proposition 8. There have been attacks on Mormons for leading the fight for the ballot initiative as well as racial epithets hurled at African Americans because 70% of them voted "Yes" to define marriage as between a man and a woman.

I voted "present" on Prop 8. I really don't care. I thought about it a bit...my brain said yes on 8, but my heart said no on 8. So I left it to people more decisive that cared. Make a better case next time around. Stop crying, half of SFO voters didn't vote. I saw tons of "No on 8" people in the SFO area last weekend. How much more effective would it have been if they weren't preaching to the choir.

I read this article from the AP on yahoo and in it there was originally a paragraph about the racial divide in gay rights votes. I decided to send my friend a link to the article and wanted to include in the email a quote from the part that mentions the racial divide in the vote. But, suddendly, that paragraph was gone!! I thought maybe yahoo was censoring itself, so I googled the name of the article and checked at least 15 different sites, including this, and it was all the same. Apparently, the AP had second thoughts, was overcome by PC fear, and censored its own piece. It seems that they were afraid of offending blacks and Latinos. Funny, blacks and latinos were not afraid of offending gays on Nov. 4. But the Left is so trapped in PC that they will never deal with any issue honestly and opengly. Four years of this folks!!

Here are some civil rights cases and histroy has shown that the ones deprived of their rights under the 14th ammendment will always WIN. 1896: Plessey Vs Ferguson- A landmark decision of separate but equal. 1954: Brown vs Board of education. Separate but equal does not foster equality. I can go on and site so many civil right cases that went all the way to the Supreme Court. In essence, every American citizan has equal protection under the law. There are 8 protected classes in this country- Race, ethnicity, religion,color, nationanl origin, age, gender, familial status, and disability. With the onset of all these "anti-gay marriage" propositions, I won't be surprized if sexual orientation is added into the protected class due to future civil rights style lawsuits. Proponents of these divisive propositions should think twice. They may be dragged into future civil rights lawsuits if they keep "defending" marriage in the guise of denying gay Americans of their civil rights.

It makes me mad that these propositions force me to vote for or against the sanctity of marriage. All Americans have a right to be protected against discrimiation under the 14th amendment of the US constitution. Prop 8 and Prop 102, if approved, will open so many discriminatory bills against Gay Americans. What gay American couples simply want is to have the same civil rights protected under the law. Key word here is civil rights. All they are asking for is to have the same civil, taxation, property ownership, financial and estate/trust rights as married couples do. I am sure there are more "married couple" rights out there I missed. There is nothing wrong with having the same right as the next American, married, straight or gay. Civil rights are not reserved for just a chosen few. Civil rights are for all Americans regardless of race, sexual orientation, etc. Shame on those who support props 8 and 102 to call themselves Christians and yet deny others of their rights.

If your children go to private parochial school, you can kick gay people out of those schools. You would still have that right. But if Proposition 8 passes it will be taking rights away from certain people in our society. This will not be the destroyer of marriage. If a thousand gay people got married tomorrow, it would not affect my marriage in any way what so ever. I would still love my wife in the same way as I do now. This is a civil rights issue plain and simple, it is no more right to tell someone that they can not marry based on who they fall in love with, any more than telling someone they can not vote because of their gender or telling someone they can not marry because of the color of their skin. Proposition 8 is wrong no matter how many people claim it is fine.

A majority of people thought that was fine, it did not make it right. Before the 1960s there were several states in this land of ours that said a black man could not vote because of the color of his skin. They said that it was legal to make black people eat in different restaurants, drink from different water fountains and go to separate schools. There was no legal recourse, for a black family that had a member of their family lynched. The courts and police did nothing. It was illegal for a black man to marry across the color line, just because of the color of his skin. Just because a majority of people in the south thought that these things were acceptable, by no stretch of the imagination, ever made these things right. Dear Editor, Proposition 8 is wrong and so are the people who are behind it. They like to bandy about a couple of different slogans about why we should pass Proposition 8; that gay marriage will be taught in CA schools and that 61% of the voters agree with it. One of these statements is just not true and the other is irrelevant. There is nothing in the California Ed. Code that states that any kind marriage and or sex education will take place in the second grade or any other grade in grammar school for that matter. I have heard of no rush to print gay text books and rush them into our schools with no prior parent consent. This is just a ridiculous scare tactic that is untrue. As for 61% of Californians agreeing with the stand of Proposition 8, no matter if the statement is true or not, it is irrelevant. Just because a majority of a population is in favor of something does not make it right. In the not to distant past it was illegal for women to vote, just because of their gender.

if gay people can truly explain to the rest of the population what it means to be gay, then this can clear up a lot of misconceptions and prejudices. then maybe, just maybe, the marriage initiative can go through. some people still find this lifestyle reviling.

It used to be illegal for two people of opposite races to get married, women used to have no right to vote, minorities used to be legally segregated, the right to own slaves used to be a constitutionally protected right. Times do and must change and religion must not be counted in this argument, only what is fair. That means equal rights...for everybody!

Doesn't it seem odd that California voters have to ask permission from the State Supreme Court to engage in democracy, while the opponents of this measure are calling it a revsion not an amenmendment? Revise, amend , prepend, change, add, alter, whwatever, how about a free and fair election, up or down, just like we learned in grade shool?

It is primarily religious groups who oppose gay marriage - even when the couple gains little more than the right to use the M word. America was founded by people who wanted freedom of religion; freedom from a government dictating their religious beliefs. America was founded as a country with separation of church and state, yet it is now the church trying to force the state to impose laws based on religious beliefs. People are free to follow their religious beliefs, but they are not free to force others to also believe as they do. We don't have a ban on pork just because some religions forbid it. We don't forbid divorce just because some religions forbid it. Women are not forced to wear head coverings. Marriage is a legal construct as well as a religious one and should, as all other religious practices, be free to exist outside of religious boundries.

One day we will all look back on those who opposed gay marriage just like those who opposed segregation, a womens right to vote or interracial marriage. All of these draconian laws used to be in the Constitution. SLAVERY used to be constitutionially legal for crying out loud! This just proves that times do and must change. Besides, as one comedian said, "If gay people want to get married and be as miserable as married straight people, then who am I to argue?" :)
