Metro is closing the rail bridge that carries Yellow Line trains across the Potomac River this weekend for track maintenance and to perform its annual inspection of the span, officials said.

Yellow Line trains will operate only between the Huntington and King Street Metrorail stations beginning at 10 p.m. today, with service expected to resume by Monday morning’s rush hour, said Metro spokesman Steven Taubenkibel. Yellow line trains will not operate between the King Street and the Mt. Vernon Square stations.

Passengers will be forced to transfer to the Blue Line at the King Street station, Taubenkibel said. Those traveling between Mt. Vernon Sq./7th Street-Convention Center and L’Enfant Plaza must ride the Green Line, he said. All Blue Line trains will operate with six cars through the weekend, with more trains available for service if necessary.
