Doron, Terrapin women ready for repeat title run

Playing for the Israeli national team, Doron brought the Under-20 Division B European Championship to the team in 2005 averaging 24.7 points per game.
In her sophomore campaign Doron led the Terps to the National Championship in a 78-75, overtime victory against Duke. She scored 24 total points in the Final Four. With all but two players returning to the national championship team, Brenda Frese’s crew is poised for a repeat. Doron and second-team All American Crystal Langhorne will lead the Terps as they attempt to become the first team to win back-to-back titles since Connecticut won three straight championships from 2002-2004.
“I think we have 95 to 97 percent of our players returning,” Kristi Toliver said. “The attitude around here is playing to win games. We know we have a target on our back but we are ready for the challenge.”
All five starters from the championship game will be returning to the roster next year.
This summer the Terps toured Europe visiting Prague, Vienna, Budapest and Paris. Since returning from that tour the team has been practicing sporadically with each other due to class schedules.
“We use a buddy system,” Doron said. “I have to find someone to practice with in the mornings so we can get each other’s rebounds.”
This year the Terps welcome new staff member Becky Bonner as assistant director of basketball operations. Bonner has no college coaching experience but did play four years of Division-I basketball with Stanford and Boston Universities.

I'm still scratching my head trying find any similarities between Kevin Love and Larry Bird. Love is a low post player who can hit an outside shot if he's left unguarded, Larry Bird was a great outside shooter who could penetrate. Love lumbers down the court like a Clydesdale, Bird could run like a quarter horse. Other than the fact that they're both white and both are good, they're as different as could be.

How can you talk about a resurgence of college hoops in the area and not mention the only school from Baltimore to win a National Championship ad has the best chance to reach the NCAA Division I tourny this year: Morgan State University!! Is it because Morgan plays in the predominately Black college MEAC. or have you become conditioned to disregard any accomlishments by this great university, just like the rest of the sports journalist in this city?
