Vienna (Map, News) - Space Adventures, the Vienna company that sells an eight-day trip to the International Space Station for only $20 million, has a new offer: For another $15 million they can arrange for clients to take a 90-minute spacewalk.

The firm partners with the Federal Space Agency of the Russian Federation to make the trips possible. They routinely book one of the three seats aboard the biannual Russian flights to the ISS, creating an opportunity for those with the means to realize their personal urge for space exploration.

The extra $15 million correlates to the additional training and resources involved in doubling time aboard the ISS, a requirement due to the time it takes to prepare for a walk.

Space tourists contracting for a spacewalk would use the Orlan one-size-fits-all spacesuit while outside the ISS and would have to train for an additional month.

“A professional astronaut usually trains for years,” said Stacey Tearne, vice president of communications for Space Adventures. “However, they train for specific assignments. This is to completely enjoy the view.”

Average spacewalks involve at least six hours outside the space station, vastly more time than is involved in the commercial experience. Space tourists can also be accompanied by a professional astronaut while they float in space.
